Kaligarh was established in late 2013 by Jyoti Upadhyay. The business creates handcrafted jewellery, working with silver, brass and goldplated metal for Boutique shops and curated online portals focused on high-quality, artisanal products.
Each element of their jewellery is produced in-house, including chains and clasps. Alongside their own product line they also manufacture for other brands and are open to collaborations.
Kaligarh means artisan in Nepali, and its mission is to create opportunities for craftsmen and women in the Himalayan region. Its founder, Jyoti Upadhyay, is passionate about addressing the massive social issue of labour migration, by which hundreds of thousands of men and women in Nepal risk their lives to pursue unskilled work in the Middle East (e.g. to build the World Cup 2022 venues in Qatar), often working under treacherous conditions with very little protection – all due to a lack of opportunities at home.
